Rupert Thompson, Adviser
Rupert carries a wealth of experience, primarily as a successful marketeer and more recently in the running of small businesses. His career spans major brand and trade marketing; advertising and media, new business start-up and new product development. Strategic planning at both Business Unit, Divisional and Corporate level, plus PLC Board responsibilities. He has a particular focus and interest in all aspects of marketing and brand building. Plus an extensive knowledge of building and running both a private company and a division of a quoted plc. within the brewing and pub industry.
Until recently Rupert was Chief Executive, founder and majority shareholder of Ryland Thompson Ltd/ Refresh Group Plc. established in June 2000 and subsequently sold to Marstons plc. in April 2008.  In September 2009 Rupert joined the board of Thatchers Cider Company Ltd., a mid-sized family cider maker, as a non-executive director.
Other recent business leadership roles include: Co-founder, director and Chairman of the Beer Academy and Co-founder and director of Cask Marque Trust.
Rupert is currently advising a number of companies on strategy and also investing in new and early stage businesses on his own behalf. As an interim management consultant in 1999 Rupert helped develop a Business to Business interactive TV channel with Sky TV, advised an e-commerce start-up and also provided advice for a major fmcg brand. Prior to this he held the post of Commercial Director of Morland Plc., and chaired and managed the Divisional Board. He was previously a Brand Director of Bass Plc. and held various roles with M and B and then Bass North for over ten years.
In a voluntary capacity Rupert has additional experience as a Governor of Chilton Foliat Primary School, a Member of the Parliamentary Beer Group Steering Committee and a trustee of the Oxfordshire Community Foundation, and is currently a Senior Visiting Fellow at Southampton University.
