David has a broad and diverse career as a General Counsel and Company Secretary across a wide range of sectors and for international businesses. His extensive skills and experience also include compliance, compensation, risk management and mergers and acquisitions.

David was a main board director, General Counsel and Company Secretary for Smiths Group, a FTSE 100 company, for eight years.  Prior to that, he was General Counsel and main board director of TI Group for three years prior to the Smiths/TI merger and had been TI’s Company Secretary for the preceding nine years. He was a long-serving pension scheme trustee and chaired the trustees of the largest Smiths scheme.

Before TI Group, David spent four years as Director of Legal Affairs at Quaker Oats, having started his career with The Mabey Group of private companies.

David was called to the Bar in 1978.

David is Chairman of Governors at Abingdon School in Oxfordshire and a member of the governing Council of Wycombe Abbey School in Buckinghamshire. His former appointments include: a trustee of the Artificial Heart Foundation, a Management Committee member of the Industry and Parliament Trust and a member of the European Advisory Board for FM Global, the US insurance company.
