Peter Stormonth Darling has spent most of his career in investment management and advisory businesses. He is currently Chairman of Welbeck Land, a UK property development company and a Director of Howard de Walden Estates, Agrifirma Brazil Limited, Advent Capital Holdings (AIM) and Guardian Capital (Toronto Stock Exchange). Previous Non Executive Directorships include Scottish and Southern Energy plc, Scottish Equitable plc, Galahad Gold plc, and a number of Investment Trusts. He also has advisory relationships with several substantial net worth families. A former British Infantry Officer and Oxford University graduate with an MA in Law (MA Honours), Peter began his career with SG Warburg (SGW) by working for Triarch Corporation Limited in Canada (this company had been started up by SGW). He subsequently moved to London in the early 60s and joined the investment management division of SGW. In 1977 Peter became Vice Chairman of SG Warburg, a post he held for 8 years. From 1979 to 1992 he was Chairman of Mercury Asset Management Group plc which was the largest UK asset management company; it went public in 1987 and was sold to Merrill Lynch in 1998. From 1990 to 2005 he was a member of Investments Committee of the $35 billion United Nations Pensions Fund. In the not-for-profit sector he is (Acting) Chairman of World Monuments Fund Britain, and is Chairman of Winchester College Society Council. He is a trustee of World Monuments Fund (US), and of the Dr. Mortimer and Theresa Sackler Foundation.
