Richard Ramsay has had a varied and successful career in a wide span of areas: financial services, commerce and within government. Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in 1975 Richard moved into the world of corporate finance, firstly with Brandts before moving to Hill Samuel & Co in 1978. In addition to corporate finance work Richard worked on secondment to the DTI as a Director in the Industrial Development Unit and, for a period, as the Secretary of the bank's Executive Committee. In 1988 he was recruited by BZW to help build their corporate finance division. Transactions he led included the privatisation of the Scottish electricity industry. In 1991 he was appointed COO of the Corporate Finance Division where, with the CEO, he helped plan and manage the substantial growth of the division's activities in the UK and overseas. In 1993 Richard joined the board of Ivory & Sime, the listed Scottish investment management house, at first to build up a private client business and then also to be responsible for the firm's marketing. In 1997 he joined Aberdeen Football Club as Director and Company Secretary, responsible for the finance and secretarial functions and the Club's commercial activities. He was responsible for their fund raisings in 1997 and 2000 and for their listing on AIM in 2000. In 2001 Richard joined OFGEM, the energy regulator, as an executive member of the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority and Managing Director of the Regulation and Financial Affairs Division. This division was responsible for the economic regulation of the UK's 'pipes and wires', which remain monopoly activities subject to price regulation. He was also responsible for OFGEM's relationships with the City. Major projects he worked on included gas and electricity price control projects and the BETTA project, that led to the common electricity trading and transmission arrangements in England, Wales and Scotland. In 2003 Richard joined Intelli Corporate Finance as a Director and now works on a part time basis. Intelli Corporate Finance specialises in the closed end funds and fund manager sectors, focussing on high performing managers. In 2007 Richard joined the Shareholder Executive, working on a part time basis, as a Director focussing principally on the nuclear sector. In addition to his executive roles Richard has been a Non Executive Director of a number of companies and investment trusts and is currently a Director of Artemis AiM plc, having been its Chairman; is Chairman of Wolsey Group, a private company providing mezzanine finance to the house building sector; and is a Director of Xploite, an AIM company, where he is Chair of the Audit and the Remuneration Committees.
